Padua Franciscan High School seniors organized a senior prom for senior citizens at Mount Alverna Senior Living Community in Parma on Sunday, February 15, 2026. The celebration involved music, dancing, food and drinks for about 60 residents. Several kings and queens were crowned from each of the different centers at the nursing home.

Over a dozen Padua students volunteered at the event. Some played songs on the piano, while others deejayed oldies hits from the 50s, 60s and 70s. Prior to the event, Padua’s Art Club made decorations for the dance, along with invitations and promotional posters. Garden Club arranged the floral centerpieces. Padua’s Retreat Team painted hand-made cards to accompany the party favors that were assembled by Key Club.

It was a true team effort, but Padua senior Lizzie Tuel look the lead on organizing the event. “I wanted to make this event happen, because as a senior myself, I am very excited about our own upcoming prom,” said Tuel. “I love the joy of being able to prepare for it and I wanted to allow the residents at the nursing home to be able to experience this joy, excitement, and anticipation once again.”

Padua has partnered with Mount Alverna for many years. Students in grades 9-12 volunteer at the senior living community by providing a number of services, including: painting nails for residents, singing and performing music (whether it be a holiday concert or a marching band show), distributing communion each week, making greeting cards and visiting with residents.
