Experience can be a great teacher, and dozens of Padua Franciscan High School students embraced that opportunity when they got a first-hand look at the justice system in action.

MyTrack® Law and Forensics students, along with Mock Trial team members, were in the audience during a live 8th District Court appeal hearing as part of a “Courtroom in the Classroom” event at Padua on Thursday, March 19.

Students and advisors observed from the gallery as the defense and prosecuting attorneys made arguments as to why an appeal should or should not be granted for a recent murder conviction.

After each attorney had 15 minutes to provide reasoning for and against a retrial, and a five-minute rebuttal for the defense, the court was adjourned.

Following the appeal hearing, students participated in question-and-answer sessions with the lawyers and three-judge panel.
