Padua seniors Audrey Malcuit ’25 and Jacob Phillips ’25 both earned perfect scores on the ACT standardized college admissions test. Only .25% of all ACT test-takers receive a perfect score. The rare accomplishment means a lot to them. They worked very hard to prepare for the exam.
The seniors credited Padua with preparing them well. “Padua has been a great place to support and challenge me academically, offering many rigorous programs like MyTrack® (Computer Science and Engineering) to prepare me for my future career,” said Malcuit. “Padua has pushed me to my academic limit and brings out everything that I’m capable of,” said Phillips.
While they say all of their teachers have had a hand in their academic success, they wanted to give a shout-out to one teacher in particular from the computer science department. “I especially want to thank Mr. Joe Morel for always believing in me and pushing me to better,” said Malcuit. “I’m thankful Mr. Morel encourages me to use my talents and take on challenges,” said Phillips.
Padua’s administration describes the pair as high achievers who have rigorous course loads – taking six or seven Advanced Placement courses during their senior year. They’re also very involved. They’re part of the school’s MyTrack® Computer Science program, participants in Model United Nations, and are members of National Honor Society.
Principal Bob DiRocco expressed that Audrey and Jacob are outstanding Bruins. "Their hard work, focus, and determination are exemplary," DiRocco said. "While their dedication to scholarship comes as no surprise to those who know them, this is a significant accomplishment which we are happy to celebrate."
The list of accomplishments don't end there. Malcuit was named a National Merit Semifinalist in the fall, while Phillips was named a National Merit Commended Student. Additionally, both students were recently awarded the Governor's Scholarship.
Outside of the classroom, Malcuit is a leader – serving as captain of the Girls Varsity Soccer team, Key Club leader, Blood Drive organizer, president of both Spanish Club and Spanish NHS. She hasn’t decided on which college she’ll be attending next fall, but she plans on majoring in engineering. Prior to attending Padua, Malcuit went to St. Michael School.
Phillips wants to study computer science at Case Western Reserve University. He previously attended St. Charles Borromeo School.
